Travel insurance
We strongly advise you to purchase comprehensive travel insurance.
 
Various private companies provide it (Southern Cross, QBE, Comprehensive). Air New Zealand do not blanket-cover groups any more so we can't provide it at the time of booking. You can, however, get it direct from Air New Zealand. They'll need to know your medical status before covering you ... this seems to be normal procedure now.

Health information
The New Zealand ACC scheme does not apply in Rarotonga. You are solely responsible for medical/accident/holiday insurance and costs. There is a hospital on Aitutaki ... and we have never used it.

Bottled and treated water is available on the island; the local town supply may not taste the same as what you're used to but is fine if you boil it to be sure.
